SPRING WORKSHOP

Division 3 conducted its Spring Workshop on Friday April 25, 2008 at Camp John Barnhardt Boy Scout Council in New London, NC, which is located near Badin Lake. Around 40 people attended the Workshop. It was a beautiful warm and sunny day. Mr. Greg Graham of the Executive Council of the Stanley County Boy Scouts of America welcomed NCPPA to Stanley County and gave us a history of Camp Barnhardt. A few of the guys had memories of going to Camp Barnhardt for summer camp.

The morning speaker was Pastor Aaron Wells of Higher Level Mission in Kannapolis, NC. His workshop was called “Re-entry: Five essential elements”. He also shared a little of his background as a gang member on the streets of Philadelphia.

The afternoon speaker was Mrs. Mona Gibson, Executive Director of The Ronald McDonald House in Charlotte, NC. Mona began her career as a Probation/Parole Officer in Union and Mecklenburg Counties. Her workshop was entitled “The Secrets of Happiness”. Both Pastor Wells and Mrs. Gibson were presented gifts of pottery.

Lunch was prepared by Moore County CPPO Mike Dunn and consisted of grilled hamburgers, hot dogs with all the fixings, and banana pudding. Everyone enjoyed lunch and sharing fellowship including sitting outside on the huge covered porch in rocking chairs which overlooked Badin Lake.

The regular April Division meeting was conducted. A number of door prizes were given away, including two free NCPPA membership renewals, two beautiful summer door wreaths and several baskets of red begonias which were used as center pieces on the lunch tables.

All in all, the Division 3 Spring Workshop was a great success.

Division III Fundraiser

SALTED PRETZEL!... MAKE THAT TWO SALTED PRETZELS!... NACHO WITH CHEESE AND PEPPERS!... NEED ANOTHER SALTED PRETZEL!!!

NCPPA Division III fundraiser was held on May 17, 2008. We worked a concession booth at the Lowes Motor Speedway for the All Star Race.

Thirteen people participated in the fund raiser. We cooked and served hamburgers, hot dogs, pretzels and nachos along with cold beverages to hundreds of hungry and thirsty race fans.

It was fun and we were all very tired at the end of the night.
